A note on 1k
From me and Zac, thank you.
“Omg one thousand subscribers!” has two possible vocal inflections if you say it out loud.
Tone one is excited, with the ending pitch being an octave higher than the starting.
Tone two is shocked, said in slow monotone speech.
I’ve used both this week.
It’s the highest compliment to know my words resonate with a reader. It’s also overwhelming to knowingly show my vulnerabilities to a growing corner of the internet.
But, that’s the thing: it’s growing. There’s relatability… so, why does it feel foreign to profess? Why am I scared to post something that is a shared human experience?
Earlier in the year, I passed a woman while on a walk. Context: this was during one of my saddest seasons.
She was wearing a neon pink “We’re All In This Together” t-shirt. Naturally, I thought of a young Zac Efron stomp-clapping in unison on the Wildcat’s gymnasium floor. Then, unnaturally, I started to cry.
…Ya, in public, on the street, in a neighborhood that I was not a member of, no less.
But that was the thing!!! All of us are struggling with or searching for something. We are all in this together.
So, thank you for being here– reading these posts, and in turn, encouraging me to keep going, to keep sharing.
I guess there is a third way to say “Omg one thousand subscribers!”
It’s with a lot of humility and an added “thank you.” 🤍
